Matthew Dixon founded MD Law in 2015. He qualified as a solicitor in 1998 and went on to lead the Sheffield insolvency and business recovery team at hlw Keeble Hawson. Born and raised in Sheffield, Matthew graduated from University College London before returning to Sheffield to train as a solicitor.
The focus of Matthew’s practice is on contentious corporate and personal insolvency, and he has had numerous notable outcomes for insolvency practitioners on difficult and complex cases.
Matthew also brings his extensive experience to advising company directors and financially distressed individuals.
In his spare time, Matthew is captain of Sheffield Collegiate Cricket Club, a playing member of the MCC and serves on the Players and Fixtures sub-committee at Lord’s. He also enjoys playing golf as a member of Lindrick Golf Club and tries to enjoy watching Sheffield United.

Neil Kelly joined MD Law from the outset, having worked with Matthew Dixon since qualifying as a solicitor in 2008 at hlw in Sheffield.
Neil studied law at the University of Sheffield.
Noted in Chambers and Partners 2015 as ‘an associate to watch’ and ‘clear, practical and commercially minded’, Neil has notable experience in both non-contentious and contentious insolvency matters including:
• acting for the Administrators of Yeomans Outdoors, Norking Aluminium, and Darlington Football Club;
• representing creditors of HMV and the Caterham Formula One team;
• reported cases on unlawful dividends, material irregularity in IVA proceedings and remuneration of insolvency practitioners; and
• more unusually, acting for the Administrators in the international sale of a 200 ton payload hovercraft.
Neil also assists and advises directors of distressed businesses, as well as individuals in financial and insolvency difficulties. He has significant experience in advising on personal guarantees, directors’ duties and the re-use of company names.
Away from work, Neil is a keen amateur musician and a member of the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra. Neil’s idea of a holiday involves cycling hundreds of miles across tropical countries; most recently Nicaragua.

Carl Jones graduated from the University of Cambridge in 2010 and trained at the Sheffield office of international law firm, DLA Piper.
Carl joined the Insolvency department of hlw Keeble Hawson on qualification as a solicitor in 2013 and joined Matthew and Neil at MD Law in 2015.
During his career to date, Carl has already achieved significant success in acting for Insolvency Practitioners in complex litigious matters, as well as developing his practice in transactional work.
Carl was born in Chesterfield and is a supporter of Chesterfield FC.
In his spare time, Carl acts as a Senior County Referee with Sheffield & Hallamshire FA and is also a National List Referee for futsal – the FIFA approved version of 5-a-side.
