MD Law solicitor shortlisted in two industry awards

MD Law’s company and commercial solicitor Luke Turner has been shortlisted in the Insider South Yorkshire Dealmakers Awards and in the Insider Yorkshire Young Professionals Awards.

Luke, who joined the firm as a trainee and qualified into the corporate and commercial team in April 2024, is a finalist in the Emerging Dealmaker category at the Insider South Yorkshire Dealmakers Awards and in Legal Professional of the Year at the Insider Yorkshire Young Professionals Awards.

Luke quickly established himself at MD Law by demonstrating exceptional technical ability, commercial awareness and maturity well beyond his experience.

He has made significant contributions to a number of interesting, complex and high-value corporate matters, acting as a key advisor on multiple multi-million-pound transactions and supporting deals typically handled by far more senior lawyers, and contributes to business development and community initiatives.

The Emerging Dealmaker category, open to individuals aged 35 or under working in the dealmakers sector in South Yorkshire, rewards those making the most impact in the last year, including showing strong leadership skills and value creation capabilities. Winners will be announced at the Insider South Yorkshire Dealmakers Awards 2026 on Thursday June 18 at the Crowne Plaza Royal Victoria Hotel in Sheffield.

Alongside the Emerging Dealmaker shortlisting, MD Law is also a finalist in the National and International Deal for James Burdekin’s work on the acquisition of Humphrey Holdings by CCL Industries.

The Yorkshire Young Professionals Awards 2026 celebrate the achievements of young professionals aged 35 and under across various sectors on June 10 at the Headingley Stadium, Leeds. They recognise outstanding talent in categories such as law, accountancy, IT/Tech, finance, PR, property and construction, recruitment/HR, engineering and manufacturing/manufacturing, education and training, health and medicine and retail/hospitality.

MD Law founder Matthew Dixon said: “Luke’s nominations are just reward for his hard work and progression during the past two years since qualification. It is yet another example of the development of the work the Corporate/Commercial team headed by James Burdekin has achieved, and this has been supported by Luke and other team members, who now total six, a fantastic achievement from a standing start. We are delighted that Luke trained with the firm and is helping the firm and department to develop even further.”

James Burdekin, Partner and Head of Corporate and Commercial at MD Law: “Luke’s dedication, work ethic and commitment to both his clients and the firm are exceptional. He approaches every matter with professionalism, energy and commercial insight well beyond his level of qualification, and he has already made a meaningful impact on the team. Luke has an extremely bright future ahead of him.”

Earlier this year Luke was shortlisted in the Sheffield & District Law Society Rising Star category.
